5G speed in Vietnam’s Viettel network has been recorded a peak 4.7 Gbps, which is 40 times faster than 4G. The test was carried out on millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum using radio equipment from Ericsson and a device powered by Qualcomm’s X60 modem. This milestone will strengthen the outstanding capabilities of 5G that Viettel is deploying in Vietnam. This gigabit-speed 5G network will be a foundation for several smart applications of 5G.
To achieve this ultra-high speed, Viettel has used the most advanced E-UTRA NR Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) using 800 MHz bandwidth of mmWave spectrum for greater 5G coverage. Viettel has been a pioneer for 5G deployment in Vietnam and it is the only operator globally to have R&D facility for 5G devices. This breakthrough of 5G speed will make Viettel’s 5G network much more practical and efficient.
The trial was achieved using Ericsson’s NR Street Macro solution on mmWave spectrum. It is an easy-to-install solution intended to help accelerate 5G roll-out experience in dense urban regions while ensuring the optimum user experience. This accomplishment of Viettel will empower many industries in Vietnam to accelerate digital transformation. It will also enable many innovative use cases for consumers and businesses to leverage multi-gigabit speed, low latency, and high network capacity.
